Biaxially oriented polyester film (BOPET) is the outer layer material for retort pouches. Polyester Clear film is typically 12 μm thick and possesses cold and heat resistance properties, with an applicable temperature range of -70 to 150℃.
Transparent Polyester film exhibits good mechanical properties, antistatic properties, and water and gas barrier properties. PVDC coating can enhance its heat-sealing properties, barrier properties, and printing adhesion.
After corona treatment, Polyester film 's surface tension reaches over 50 mN/m, making it suitable for printing and lamination processes. In composite film bag making, it can withstand a heat-sealing temperature of 220℃ without deformation and is commonly used in BOPA//BOPET//CPP structured packaging bags. Products must undergo a constant temperature test at 160℃ to determine heat shrinkage rate; the longitudinal and transverse shrinkage rates of qualified products should be less than 1.5%.
Most BOPET films can meet the requirements for high-temperature retorting at 120-128°C, and some can even withstand 135°C. However, some BOPET films have excessive heat shrinkage and may deform after high-temperature retorting. Therefore, when purchasing BOPET film, it is essential to choose products with low heat shrinkage. The method for checking the heat shrinkage of BOPET film is to place it in a 160°C constant temperature oven for 5 minutes, then measure the changes in its length and width, and calculate its longitudinal and transverse heat shrinkage rates. Generally, it should be less than 1.5%.
